Behaviour Consultations
Does your dog or cat have a behaviour problem? Examples include pulling on the lead, aggression, destroying the house, nervousness or a bad recall. Our local behaviourist Melanie Daniels V.N. DIP CABT is happy to discuss problems and see owners with their animals both at the surgery and in the animals own home.
Puppy socialisation class
The
practice holds puppy socialization classes. They welcome all puppies, owners and children. The class aims to provide puppy owners with valuable advice on training, socialisation, nutrition and much more.

Furry and fat isn't fun! This is the motto of our qualified nutritionalists. They can offer expert advice on how your pet can lose its excess pounds making them happier and healthier. If you feel any of your pets are overweight make an appointment with a nurse and have them weighed. Their advice and time is free of charge and appointments can be made at any time of the normal working day.
24 hour emergency cover
At any time of the night or day, weekends and bank holidays, a vet is on call for all emergencies. Our out of hours service is covered by BedsVets in Barton-le-Clay. During out of hours, when dialing are normal phone number you will be automatically put straight through to BedsVets.
Radiography
We always have an x-ray machine on the premises. We also have a developing machine situated in the operating theatre. This enables us to take, develop and examine x-rays in very little time. Where it is possible a diagnosis can be made before the animal goes home.
Endoscopy
We have three different sized endoscopes. Each one allows us access to examine parts of an animal without having to perform major surgery, unless necessary. The difference in size of each one enables us to use them on the smallest of patients. Where previously - without such equipment - a patient would need to undergo major and expensive surgery just to find the problem this can be avoided - where possible with these machines.
Laboratory
Although we have always been able to take and test blood within 24hrs, we have improved this service. The practice has a blood analyser which is kept on the premises. This enables us to test a blood sample for a variety of complaints within minutes. A diagnosis can be made in a very short time and treatment can commence so much quicker. However, there are some tests which can only be performed by an outside laboratory, but even these tests usually only take 24hrs to complete.
Ultrasound
We most often use this equipment to determine if an animal is pregnant or not. It also allows us to examine certain organs within the body, without a general anaesthetic, this is therefore particularly useful in old or ill animals.
Ultrasonic dental scaler
This modern machine provides the most effective and fastest cleaning of an animals teeth. As dental surgery is often performed on older animals a lengthy anaesthetic is not desirable. This equipment greatly reduces the time a patient is anaesthetised for.
Glucometer
This is a device for monitoring Glucose levels in animals. It provides an accurate reading of an animals glucose levels in 30 seconds. A diabetic patient requires their blood glucose levels to be monitored regularly. The small amount of blood this machine requires -- a drop -- is much kinder for the animal.
Blood pressure monitor
This equipment is a recent purchase of the practice. It is used for monitoring the blood pressure of an animal, particularly cats. It is measured the same way a doctor would measure a humans.
Fully enclosed garden
At the rear of the premises there is a fully enclosed garden. This
provides dogs with both concrete and grass to exercise and toilet safely on.
It's access is through a door in the kennel room, which is ideal for the dogs to get out.
Pet crematorium
We employ Willow Haven Pet Crematorium and Cemetery to collect deceased animals and take them to be cremated or buried. They provide the option for your animal to have an individual cremation. This service allows an owner to have the ashes returned to them. The company will also collect from your home if it is required. We have found them to be both discreet and extremely respectful to any animal and it's owner.
